See how, O Maya, like a shadow you are!
How beautiful, how varied, how enchanting from far!
Sometimes so scary, sometimes so strange
How without substance, and yet what a range!
When the Knowledge Sun rises, your length is so great!
Of course you do, behind the purusharthi prostrate
As the Sun climbs, you become, shorter than before
And when the Sun is on Top, you Are no more!
O Woe when the purusharthi, turns his back to God’s will!
You loom ahead and coyly, beckon him further still!
O wonder that the purusharthi, is sometimes tempted to follow!
For all your temptations, you are actually hollow!
Terrible is the scene, when the Sun sets on him!
The Glory of the sunlight, is lost for a whim!
Darkness grows up and without much resent!
You swallow him up and are omni-present!
Frightening is the darkness, pitch black the night
The poor ex-purusharthi, has lost his third sight
Terrified he is, of all things that move,
Is that a serpent, or a ghost spelling his doom?
Help me! He yells out, and prays for respite
He remembers his old days, and spots an old friend in white
“O Please, my friend, look what has happened to me
I followed my shadow and it has swallowed me”!
In his darkness, a candle, is lit up aglow
The poor old purusharthi, now rushes to the fore!
His friend who is in daylight guides him ahead
But the poor one sees shadows, coming to behead!
“Put the shadows behind, look not to the past!
Look, the Sun God smilingly, calls you at last!”
Thus speaks the strong one, gives words of succour
The old purusharthi tries, and stops to suffer!
“ Maya, you cheat! Now I know you very well!
In my time of Daylight, you did cast that fine spell!
But now that I know you, I am in control
I see you from far off and rush to His shore!”
So speaks the purusharthi, now back in to form!
“Maya, you are weakness, and I am so strong!”
These are the ways of, the game of Shadow and light
Know these and get freed from sorrow and plight!
Be Happy, O Sweet Ones, have the Sun forever on top
When that is the case, troubles from Maya will stop
Learn from the tale, of the poor purusharthi,
Enjoy this new life and experience Jeevanmukti!
